In NSW, roadworthy inspections are required in the following circumstances:
Additionally, roadworthy inspections are mandated for taxis, hire vehicles and heavy vehicles older than five years to renew their registration. These inspections ensure vehicles meet safety standards before being allowed on NSW roads, promoting road safety for all motorists.
In Victoria, roadworthy inspections, also known as Certificate of Roadworthiness (RWC), are required when selling or transferring ownership of a registered vehicle or when re-registering a vehicle after it has been unregistered for more than three months.
Additionally, they are mandatory for registering a used vehicle from interstate, converting a vehicle from a non-passenger to a passenger vehicle and sometimes as part of the requirements for specific vehicle types such as taxis or buses. These inspections ensure vehicles meet safety standards, contributing to safer roads in Victoria.
In NSW, you aren’t required to submit your vehicle to a roadworthy check in order to transfer the registration to a new owner. However, all new owners must have a pink slip roadworthy inspection when they receive their renewal notice. The seller must also provide proof of purchase documentation. In Victoria, all sellers must provide a roadworthy certificate which is less than 30 days old when transferring a registered vehicle.
